Hon. Eng. Zena: Board of Insurance Experts, Social Security, Statisticians Insurance key for Country's Economy
The Government is interested in ensuring that Tanzanians are benefitting from all sectors of the economy reforms in order to bring them sustainable development.
Hon. Engineer Zena A. Said, the Chief Secretary of Zanzibar Said this at the end of the week during the opening of the third meeting of stakeholders towards the establishment of the Board of Insurance Experts, Social Security and Actuaries held in Zanzibar at the University of Zanzibar (SUZA).
The leader said "The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar together have a very sincere commitment to bring development to the people due to the major reforms that are going on in all sectors of the economy in the country".
The Government has been providing various guidelines and instructions for creating a better environment to bring economic development to the people.
Speaking about the establishment of the board, Hon. Zena, said that this matter has come on time as it is in line with the Government's efforts to ensure that investments are productive in the country. She explained that "This idea of the establishment of a board of experts in the financial sector is important to us as the Government because it is in line with the Government's investment objectives, especially by increasing confidence to investors"
In addition, she instructed the committee of experts dealing with the establishment of the board to set plans and procedures that will reflect legal validity of the same. She said, "Prepare an effective plan that will enable you to complete this important issue on time, follow all the procedures and laws so that this instrument has legal force"
Initially, the Deputy Commissioner of Insurance Mrs. Khadija Said who is also the Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee for the establishment of the board told the Chief Secretary of Zanzibar that once the board is formed, it will be of great benefit as these professions will be recognized and have a positive contribution to economic development, it will also take into consideration the interests, skills and morals of its members. The CS emphasized that, "The idea of establishing this board of insurance experts, social security and actuaries is important now due to the growth of the financial sector in the country"
The third meeting meant to plan and discuss how to create the board, the technical committee had time to explain what has been reached so far. However, the next move will to be to carry out the study on the structure of the board by involving academics from various higher learning institutions, professionals, the citizens as well as learning from other boards like this one that is being worked on. The fourth meeting will be held in January 2023 to receive information and recommendations of the committee and finally allow other legal procedures to follow.
