Dr. Mussa C. Juma
Commissioner of Insurance

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) website. TIRA is the Government Agency under the Ministry for Finance and Planning established by the Insurance Act No 10 of 2009, to oversee the insurance business.

In order to realize the envisioned development of the insurance sector, the Government requires support of the private insurance players in guaranteeing that a substantial insurance penetration is marked and sustained by variety of insurance products and reliable business.

On emphasis, as an Authority, we are concerned that despite having a good margin of potential policy buyers, there is low register of policy underwriting in the country. While we cherish the good rate of the national economic growth, access to various insurance products and insurance contribution to national GDP still remain low, yet the demand and benefits are immense.

Considering this, TIRA and indeed the Government welcomes investors and inclusion of all stakeholders and the public in general into stimulation of the insurance industry.

To date the Authority is regulating and supervising about 31 registered Insurance Companies, 115 registered Insurance Brokers, 472 Insurance Agents, 45 Loss Adjustors/Assessors and other Registrants.

Noting on the need of insurance penetration to the public, the Authority has operating zonal offices in Northern Zone (Arusha), Lake Zone (Mwanza), Central Zone (Dodoma), Eastern Cost Zone (Dar es Slaam), Southern zone (Mbeya) and Zanzibar Offices.
