TIRA Hosts 2025 Annual Strategic Forum for East Africa Insurance Regulators in Zanzibar

Zanzibar, July 23, 2025 – The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) is proudly hosting the Annual East Africa Insurance Regulators and ZEP-RE Strategic Forum, taking place from July 21 to 24, 2025 in Zanzibar.The high-level forum brings together insurance regulators from across the East African region to discuss strategies for strengthening insurance regulation, enhancing regional cooperation, and promoting inclusive insurance markets.
The Commissioner of Insurance, Dr. Baghayo Saqware, is leading TIRA’s delegation at the forum. He is joined by senior officials from the Authority as well as the Tanzania Insurance Ombudsman (TIO), who are actively participating in sessions and panel discussions aimed at improving regulatory frameworks and protecting policyholders.
This year’s forum is being held under the theme: “Protecting Public Assets Against Climate Change and Disaster Risk Through Pre-Arranged Financing Mechanisms.” The discussions focus on how insurance and regulatory frameworks can support governments in building resilience against climate-related shocks and natural disasters through innovative risk financing solutions.
The event is organized in partnership with ZEP-RE (PTA Reinsurance Company) and the East African Insurance Supervisors’ Association (EAISA), and it marks an important milestone in regional efforts to harmonize insurance regulatory frameworks and build resilient markets.The forum is expected to produce key resolutions to improve regulatory alignment, advance climate risk insurance solutions, and enhance consumer protection across the region.
